Can I Lift This Weight vs. Can I Train This Weight?

Can I Lift This Weight vs. Can I Train This Weight?

Intent in the work being done is often as important as the work getting done.

There’s a reason you need to check your ego at the door.

Every day can present its own challenges. Understanding what is supposed to happen in the workout can make all the difference.

Is today a day to see what you’ve got?

Or is today a day to get quality reps in, in a reasonable amount of time, and move on?

There’s a difference between asking:

Can I lift this weight?

and

Can I train this weight?

Some days everything is flying. The positions are good, the weight feels light, and you add a little.

Other days it feels like gravity increased overnight.

Drop 10%. Get the quality work in. Finish the workout.

Successful day.

Because it’s not one workout that makes you successful.

It’s stacking the days.

Can you control the weight?

Can you repeat it?

Can you recover from it?

Can you build from it?

Most of the time, the goal isn’t to leave the gym wrecked.

The goal is to leave knowing you did what you needed to do — and be ready to train again.

Train what carries over.
